So, is there really a need for text reference?

OK, fooling around with Mosios has been really interesting. It is fun from our perspective to be able to answer a question so fast. The idea of being able to meet patrons' needs on the fly, whenever and wherever they occur, is really alluring. Maybe it's a failure of imagination, but outside of an emergency situation like after Katrina or somesuch, is there really a demand for on call librarians, on the move? Possibly it's because I have managed to exist without a cell phone for so long, I just cannot imagine I personally would have a spontaneous information need that could be answered in so short a space. Then there's the added complication that it may cost the patron money to read the text message.... I think more experimentation is definitely needed before we figure out how this can be best used.
