Getting more familiar with SL

I spent a good amount of time this week getting more comfortable in SL. I looked around at some more libraries and some other places just to get a little more familiar and comfortable navigating around.
While I was in the Virtual Alliance SL resource library, I found some good websites to help with developing building skills and to find free building tools. I also clicked on a shelf of file boxes and realized that I could buy it for zero Linden dollars which is great! Now every time I see something neat or interesting, I give it a click to see if I can get it for free!
I also found a tutorial on how to make a waving flag. This was helpful for a couple of reasons. In the tutorial, the builder actually makes a base for the flag pole so it won't fall over. He said that he's actually seen things fall over because they didn't have a base on them. I didn't realize that I would have to be so thoughtful when building things in SL. Also, the flag making demo was helpful because now I can make posters. In the demo, the builder used his own image on the flag, which I could do to make a poster. There may be other ways to do this, but at least now I know one!
